China’s energy storage policy
Requirements for energy density of energy storage battery
On December 10, 2021, the relevant Chinese authorities officially released the normative document of the lithium ion battery industry, which stipulates that the energy density of the single energy storage battery should not be less than 145Wh/Kg.
And the energy density of the battery pack should not be less than 100Wh/Kg. The battery capacity should still be able to maintain more than 80% after 5000 charging and discharging cycles.
In March 2021, China’s relevant documents clearly proposed to encourage the cultivation of a number of high-end brands in consumer goods such as electronic products, and promote clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient use of energy.
Site selection and battery type requirements for energy storage plants
In 2022, the China Energy Administration issued relevant documents to prevent electric power production accidents, requiring that the electrochemical energy storage power station site should not be adjacent to or set up in the places where inflammable and explosive dangerous goods are produced, stored and operated, should not be set up in the places with dust, corrosive gases, and should not be set up in the protection area of important power facilities.
Medium and large electrochemical energy storage power stations shall not use ternary lithium batteries, sodium sulfur batteries, and shall not use power batteries for cascade utilization; When selecting power batteries for cascade utilization, consistency screening shall be carried out and safety assessment shall be carried out in combination with traceability data.
